Heyoooo, it’s that time of year again folks! To save myself the brain cells, I’ve made an online form for anyone who would like to take part in my OC Christmas present countdown this year!

Usually I decide on an oc per mutual etc, but figured I’d made this an easier choice by letting you guys submit your preferences and wait for the surprise! No obligation to take part, but the offer is there if you’d like a sketch of your oc! Sketches are limited to one per person, so if you’re struggling to choose, pick the one that came to mind first! Also, I’ve done this for a few years now, so perhaps try not to include OCs I’ve already drawn - but I’m not writing this off entirely either. If you submit more than one form, I will only draw the first OC requested - unless communicated otherwise.

Actually this is a very good point and I’m also gonna tie it back into the way we in the west tell stories, cuz I just made some connections

See, a lot of western stories feature heroes who are Born Special; people with some kind of innate power or talent that they might have to hone, but always had inside them

Think Percy Jackson, She-Ra, Sora KingdomHearts etc.

(Sora’s actually a really interesting case cuz he got un-specialed as the series continued and suddenly everyone had keyblades)

Whereas by contrast, a lot of stories from the rest of the world feature heroes who really actually are everymen. Just completely normal people who work hard, and diligently, and earn the power to save the day from nothing

(Or, y’know, a base of having enough money and security to devote themselves to Training, but they’re still not Innately Special)

The original Chinese Mulan isn’t some kind of superwoman; she was a girl who picked up her sword and didn’t put it down until she was good at it

And this matters, especially in the context of chatGPT, because the way we tell stories isn’t random; it teaches children and strangers what we value and how we think about the world

And you can really really really see this every single day in how people treat and think about artists and writers!

“You’re so talented. You’re so special. I could never do the things you can do.”

As if there’s some magical Art Power that you have to be born with, or you’ll never be any good at it

And we can all see the immediate problem right there, right? It’s glaringly obvious

Because it means, from the days of your first cartoons, people are being told that there’s going to be something that makes them Special, that they’re going to be magically good at without having to work for it

And once you find your Special, yeah, you work and practice it, but what if writing is hard for you? What if drawing is hard?

Clearly it’s not Your Thing, so you shouldn’t try and do it, because it’ll take a lot of practice to get good and other people will have it as Their Thing so they’ll always beat you anyway

This is obviously absolute nonsense, because no one on Earth is free-handing the Mona Lisa age 15, and no one is so innately and magically UNspecial that they couldn’t possibly learn to write for themselves, or draw

(Just for fun, I’m aphantasmic. I don’t visualise, period. No pictures in my head. So for me, the first step of “I want to draw A Blorbo” is “wait shit that means they have to have a body and a face and what do either of those even do????”

I did not draw for 30 years because yeah drawing is hard for me and it comes with that super difficult step of “and what should it look like”

I’m getting pretty damn good for a beginner and have even drawn things I’m actually proud of)

But let’s say for a minute that you haven’t done this level of cultural analysis, or introspection

You just know writing is Hard, so people who write all the good books and shows and fanfics you like? They must have some Special Skill that you very obviously don’t have, because you can’t write like them when you first pick up a pen

So what do you do?

A decade ago, you either sucked it up and tried anyway, or showered praise, commissions, and prompts on writers to see if they’d write your ideas for you, or bitched and moaned and started drama about No One Writes X Properly Write What I Want

Cuz those were all the options

But then along comes this magical technology that will scrape all of the fanworks and regular writings everywhere, and you can even tell it to write in the style of your favourite writers!

(Don’t think too hard about why that might be a major problem for them being able to find work and feed their families, or how exactly it learns to write like them, because that spoils the illusion and frankly most people don’t until they’re told to)

All you have to do is toss in a couple words or even a sentence or two of a prompt, and this wonderful technology will write your fic for you! You can even put abandoned fic in and suddenly it has an ending, and the writer didn’t have to do any work!

Sounds great, right?

And then we add in that most schools in the US and other major western cultures just plain Do Not teach how to write a professional email anymore, or how to fill out a cover letter, because they assume the kids are Assimilating Knowledge From The Aether

You’re the iPad Generation, right? You were all born with screens in your hands, clearly you are Naturally Able to do all these super normal tasks that children totally always do

But that magical technology can do that for you too! It can write those boring essays you don’t care about, that email you just don’t want to think about, bash together anything that you just plain don’t want to do, and it’s fine. Everyone’s doing it

And so long as you never ever think about why it might be worth learning how to do these things for yourself, yeah, it’s extremely easy to see why people love it

Especially when you’ve been told since you could listen that if something is hard, it probably isn’t For You, and you shouldn’t try

I get a lot of compliments on my writing that do the whole ���oh you’re so talented”, but honestly? When you point out I’ve been doing it for 20 years, yeah, it stops seeming all that special, right?

You’d probably be pretty good at anything if you did it yourself for 20 years

And since the “doing it yourself” part is pretty key, every time you try and cheat and just use chatGPT, all you’re doing is pushing off when you yourself would be good at it for another 20 years

Aaand because Tumblr, before you hurry to think of western stories that don’t fit the Born Special trope, give yourself a time limit, see how many you can name that don’t, and then do it again and see how many you can name that do, because that’s the point

One list will be much longer and more mainstream

i was like. thinking about the software situation with the cryptonloids and i got curious if there was any progress on the non-miku NT banks yet so i went to listen to those vocals they use in that mobile game (if i remember correctly they use beta versions unreleased to the public?) and like. you know. despite how contentious miku nt herself is i think some of the betas for the others sound pretty good, len sounds fantastic and rin sounds about on par with her older banks (although i do miss a bit of her sharpness) and like. i may be killed with hammers for this but i was listening to the heat abnormal cover and i think i like the kaito nt beta sound more than his v3 like he sounds fantastic here. i dont dislike his v3 or anything but the nt bits ive heard has like some of the depth and richness i so sorely miss from his v1 while having the old-yamaha-keyboard-keyboard-key-spring sound that i do enjoy of his v3.... i do wish it had more of the v1 strength tho

You're more than a little sleepy, having just woke up, but besides their looks, if there was anything your kids inherited from their father, it was their appetite.

And thus, when they got hungry, they got hungry - which was why you were being dragged out of bed at the ungodly hour of 5am on your day off, your daughter and son whining that they wanted pancakes for breakfast.

Yawning, you make your way to the kitchen, your kids impatiently asking you to hurry up and you chuckle tiredly, groaning under your breath as you eye the stack of dishes in the sink that you definitely knew weren't there when you last checked.

"What's wrong Mommy?" your son asks, bright blue eyes staring at you with such an intensity you can't help but wonder is your husband asexually reproduced because his children are carbon copies of himself.

You roll you eyes playfully, adopting a faux grumpy face. "Weeelll.. your father forgot to do the dishes last night being the lazy potato he is...so Mommy's just a little annoyed." You say, being sarcastic obviously - Satoru had came home exhausted from a late night at work, and so being the loving wife that you were, you set out dinner for him, knowing he'd be too tired to wash the plate right after.

However, your kids don't detect the evident sarcasm in your voice, the two instead adopted identical frowns on their faces.

"Do you not love Daddy anymore?!" Your daughter asks, aghast.

"What-"

Your son takes his sister's hand in his with a comical amount of urgency.

"We gotta warn Daddy!" he says, and your daughter nods with the same urgency- the two children now bolting to your bedroom.

You groan - what was the point of dragging you out of bed if they were going to your room anyways?!

Sighing, you decide to continue making breakfast, knowing that with the appetite of your husband and children combined, you could probably feed an entire classroom.

You're just about done, adding the last pancake to the sizable stack you created when you feel two muscles arms wrap around your waist.

You chuckle softly, feeling fluffy locks of white hair tickle the skin of your neck as your husband peppers a few sleepy kisses to your shoulder, reveling in your warmth.

"Mmm...morning baby..." he murmurs and you hum, rubbing gentle circles into his forearm.

"Morning 'Toru... did you sleep okay?" you ask and Satoru nods, his answer a little muffled from his face still nuzzling into the crook of your neck.

"Yeah...wish I could've cuddled with you more though..." he whines, and you can feel his dramatic pout against your skin.

"Aww...poor baby...is there anything I can do to make you feel better?" You say teasingly.

Satoru grins."Well...there is one thing...maybe a kiss from my gorgeous wife..?" " he suggests, and you laugh, turning your head to press you lips against his, only for two pairs of little hand push your clingy husband away from you.

"No! Daddy's ours now!" Your daughter says adamantly, and you gape at her in mock offense.

"What?!" you say incredulously, and your son nods solemnly.

"You said that you didn't like Daddy because he doesn't wash the dishes!" he says, and Satoru raises a teasing eyebrow at you.

"You said what?" he asks teasingly and you cross your arms.

"I said nothing of the sort!" you say, but your kids are unfortunately extremely stubborn. "All I want is a little kiss, is that so bad?"

Your daughter exchanges a glance with her brother before running straight at you.

"Run! And take Daddy with you! I'll hold her off!" she yells, grabbing some random whisk off the counter and jabbing it playfully in your direction, acting like a sword.

However- you knew that there was no point in fighting back, there was no need.

Because if there was one thing that could beat your children's stubbornness, it was your husband's love for you, and his constant need to shower his pretty wife in endless affection.

Your point was proven the moment your husband and son barrel into the kitchen once more, the latter trying in a futile attempt to slow him down by clinging to his father's legs - a small "I couldn't stop him!" being cried out as your daughter sends him a dirty look. However, before she can do anything, the little girl in scooped up into her father's arms, trapped in his embrace, and squirming profusely and Satoru finally smashes his lips against yours in victory.

When he finally breaks apart, he's grinning at you with a cheesy grin, watching your breathless state with those gorgeous blue eyes you fell in love with. (Your kids are groaning in the background)

summary: you get dragged to a work event by your boyfriend of three years when Hugh comes to flirt with you. after you reluctantly tell him you’re taken, he backs off for the most part. a few months later, Hugh tells the story during an interview but little does he know you’re single now. 

warnings: implied age gap (not mentioned), flirting while in a relationship (kinda)

You’d been with your boyfriend, Rowan, for a few years now. He earned a degree in marketing and immediately got a job for a studio. While he enjoys his job and it brings in good money, the events he dragged you to were unbelievably boring. The company he worked for always had big parties after a success on a project. At first they were interesting, often running into celebrities here and there given that it was the success of their movie, but lately you found yourself sitting at the bar more often than not. It was routine at this point. Rowan would show you off for the first hour, then he would toss you aside to fend for yourself. You weren’t the biggest social butterfly, hence why you liked to sit alone, drinking. 

Tonight wasn’t any different. You were at another party for the successful marketing for Deadpool and Wolverine. You’d heard a few whispers that the stars of the movie themselves were somewhere wandering around but you hadn’t had the pleasure of seeing them. Rowan dumped you at the bar a little over thirty minutes ago and you’ve been sipping on some fruity little drink ever since, completely in your own world. You made small talk with the bartender every once and a while but you were mainly people watching. 

“Mind if I join?” A deep Australian accent asks. You look up and see a gorgeous older man. He was wearing a dark blue suit with a pair of black expensive looking glasses. He was deliciously tall and had a thich salt and pepper beard. “Uh no, go ahead.” He sits in the bar stool next to you. He orders a drink from the bartender before returning his attention back to you. “Pardon me if this is too forward but you are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.” The comment takes you aback. “Oh um, thank you. That’s really sweet of you to say.” He looks down to your glass that’s nothing but melted ice at this point. “Can I buy you another drink?” He asks. “You probably shouldn’t. I’m taken…sadly.” You whisper the last part, unsure if he heard it or not. “Oh! I apologize for coming on to you. You’ve been sitting here by yourself for so long, I thought you might have come alone.” You huff out a laugh. “My boyfriend works for the company. He’s out there socializing or whatever.” You shrug and signal to the bartender, asking for another drink. “That’s a shame. If you were mine, you’d be on my arm all night.” He smirks. “Is that right?” You smile at him. Before he can answer, you feel your phone vibrate with a text from Rowan that reads ‘where are you babe? Time to leave.’ 

“Well, the boyfriends calling, I gotta go.” You carefully climb out of the chair and grab your jacket and purse off of the back. As you start to walk away, the man speaks again. “Wait! What’s your name?” You turn back to face him. “Y/n.” He smiles and repeats it. “I’m Hugh.” His answer surprises you. “Oh! Congrats on the movie. I didn’t even recognize you at first with the beard and all.” He laughs. “Bye Hugh.” You wave before walking off.

It’s been a few months since that night in July, it being September now. You and Rowan had broken up mid-August, both of you agreeing that the relationship wasn’t going anywhere. It hurt for a little bit but you knew it was for the best. Living with him had been awkward as you searched for a new place, deciding that he can keep the current apartment. You wanted a fresh start, which is where you are now. Tonight was your first night in your new apartment. You didn’t have any furniture yet but you were happy. You bought an air mattress to make do until you could afford an actual bed. 

It was around midnight and you were doing your nightly youtube watch. You were scrolling through your recommended videos when you saw Hugh’s face pop up. It was an interview posted a few minutes ago from him on some late night show you’d never heard of. You clicked on it, wanting to hear what the man was up to these days. The interview was a standard one, mostly questions on his upcoming movie about some sheep. You weren’t really paying attention, close to dozing off when a question peaked your interest. 

“So Hugh, it’s almost been a year since the announcement of your divorce and the fans wanna know…How’s your dating life doing? Are you seeing anyone?” The woman asks, wiggling her eyebrows. Hugh lets out a big laugh. “I’m actually not seeing anyone. It’s funny you ask because the last time I even attempted to flirt with a woman she turned me down.” The interviewer's eyebrows shoot up in shock. She gasps before asking, “How could anyone turn you down? We need to know the full story here.” 

“Ryan and I were at this party for the marketing team that worked on Deadpool and Wolverine and I saw this absolutely gorgeous girl sitting at the bar all alone.” The interviewer is nodding her head, engaging with every word Hugh says. “I eyed her for a while to see if anyone was with her but she sat there alone for a good thirty minutes before Ryan hyped me up to go over there. When I finally did, I ordered a drink and tried to play it cool but I felt the urge to tell this girl how stunning she was, so I did.” You giggle to yourself and you hear him tell the story from his point of view. “She thanked me and I offered to buy her another drink. I kid you not, in the prettiest voice I’ve ever heard she says ‘you probably shouldn’t, i’m taken.’” His hands go up to his chest, gripping right above his heart. “My heart broke mate. I flirted a little more in true Hugh fashion but she had to go. I haven’t been able to get her out of my head since.” 

“What a lucky woman, I’m sure she regrets it.” 

“Hey, I tried my best.” He shrugs before looking at the camera. “Y/n, if you ever break up with him. I’m all yours baby.” 

Your jaw drops, the sound of cheers blasting from your phone.
